![]() Teachers The TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. An internationally accepted standard of academic English proficiency, it is a required certification by more than 5000 colleges and universities worldwide, including many top European universities.
As English language teachers, you are critical resources for your institutions and your knowledge can help your institutions use the TOEFL® test effectively to select students for admissions and place them in appropriate courses depending on their proficiency in English. Find out more about the TOEFL® test and how you can use it as an effective selection tool. The new internet-based TOEFL® (IBT) will be available all over the world by the end of 2006. It is already available in many European countries. While TOEFL® iBT is being phased in, TOEFL® CBT and TOEFL® PBT will continue until iBT is introduced in each area. Read our brochure to understand the TOEFL® iBT and help your student prepare for it. You can also choose to use other ETS products. The TOEFL® ITP (Institutional Testing Programme), an assessment tool derived from the paper-based TOEFL® test, provides institutions with a reliable and valid measure of students’ skills in listening, reading and grammar in English. It is a low-tech and cost-effective method of testing groups of students of any size within classrooms – it is, hence, flexible and facilitates instructor ease of use. TOEFL® ITP consists of previously administered TOEFL® test forms, which your institution can order from ETS Europe. These can then be administered at any time on your facilities, and then returned to ETS Europe for scoring. It is ideal to include the TOEFL® ITP in your programme because:
